Is your home too tidy for a cleaner? blog my Antoinette Daniel Just Helpers London ethical cleaning agency

Is my home too tidy for a cleaner?

There’s nothing nicer than coming home to a sparkling clean space after your cleaning visit – especially if you live in a hectic, messy home.

But could your home be too tidy for a cleaner? Is it a waste of money to pay for a professional cleaning service when your home is pretty presentable?

How clean is clean?

When my Helper first started cleaning in my home, this is something we struggled with. My home is tidy, on the surface at least!  So my Helper was wondering where she could make an impact, and deliver value.

But I know there’s a difference between my space looking clean, and being “clean clean.” It’s that deeper level of cleaning that I just don’t have time to do myself.

So even if there isn’t a huge difference at first glance between “before” and “after” my Helper’s visit, I have peace of mind, knowing that my home has been thoroughly cleaned. And that is the value which my Helper delivers, week after week.

Clean vs tidy

Even if everything is in its place, your tidy home may not be clean (sorry to break it to you). Even uncluttered surfaces can be hiding a layer of dust, pet dander, and allergens. Carpets and upholstery can trap dust and allergens in their fibres. So regular thorough vacuuming, dusting and mopping can keep your home hygienic and your family healthy. That hidden layer of dust can make your furnishings and carpets look dull and discoloured over time, so a thorough clean can keep them looking fresh and bright for longer.

A closer look

A clean kitchen goes beyond first impressions. Try asking yourself – “Could I lick this surface? Could I eat off this floor?” While I am not suggesting you would actually want to do this, it is a good test of the difference between tidy, and hygienically clean.

Look closely at the tidiest kitchen and you may notice drips and fingermarks on cupboard fronts, crumbs and stains on your work surfaces, and a greasy film around your hob and extractor. While your kitchen may look too tidy for a cleaner to make much of an impact, tackling these deep-cleaning tasks will make all the difference.

Preventative measures

It’s fairly easy to keep your bathroom tidy. But keeping it thoroughly clean is a different story.  Your bathroom will stay looking fresh for much longer with regular thorough cleaning from a professional. A squirt of cleaning spray and a rinse with the shower is fine for a quick in-between clean, but without regular attention, grout and sealant can become discoloured and limescale can take hold. Your professional cleaner has the know-how to keep these areas looking their best.

Valuing your time

Even if, like me, your home feels too tidy for a cleaner, keeping it that way takes time and effort. And when you have a busy life, your time is too precious to spend on cleaning. A professional cleaner can transform your home in a few hours, and leave you more time to enjoy with friends and family, or doing things that you love.

The little things

As the founder of a cleaning business, I know that it is much harder to make an impact and create that ‘wow’ moment, when a home is tidy to begin with. But I believe no home is too tidy for a cleaner. Whether it’s tackling those jobs you hate to do (oven cleaning, anyone?), deep-cleaning a specific area, or simply maintaining a clean, fresh and calm space, a professional cleaner can make a big difference to your life.
