How Safe Are Your Cleaning Products?

Over the last 12 months during the COVID-19 pandemic, we have all taken extra care to keep our homes clean and hygienic. But have you ever asked yourself – how safe are your cleaning products?

If you have babies, young children, or pets, you will want to take extra care about the ingredients in your cleaning cupboard. That way, you can be confident that the surfaces in your home are not just clean, but safe for inquisitive hands, paws, and tongues!

At Just Helpers we care about the safety and wellbeing of our Helpers and our clients, and that includes the cleaning products we use. Read on to discover our favourite, eco-friendly and safe cleaning brands.

Everyday Hazards
Many everyday cleaning products contain ingredients which can be harmful to our health. A Royal College report in 2020 found a link between conditions such as as asthma and eczema in children, and indoor pollution – including cleaning products.

Common cleaning product ingredients such as bleach, alcohol or ethanol, and hydrogen peroxide, can all cause skin irritation and breathing difficulties. Some studies have suggested that using these products over time – especially in a spray – could cause asthma.  Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs), found in some cleaning products, evaporate into the air making them easy to breathe in. This can cause irritation and even some longer term health concerns.

Safe, Effective and Kind
Our Helpers are cleaning experts, and so we have tested many different cleaning products to discover which are most effective as well as being nice to use.

Our favourite professional brand is Delphis Eco. These super-effective products are eco-friendly and sustainable and free from potentially harmful ingredients. We recommend Delphis Eco to our commercial clients, and we use them in our deep cleaning and end of tenancy cleaning services. Although Delphis Eco is a professional range, these great products are also available to buy for household cleaning.  Read more about how we use  the Delphis Eco range here.

There are more and more sustainable, eco-friendly (and people friendly) cleaning products in the supermarket and online. Here are some of our favourites:

Cleaning Safely

  • Always store cleaning products out of reach of children and pets
  • Keep pets out of the room while you are cleaning in case of accidental spills
  • Allow surfaces to dry before letting children and pets back in
  • Check ingredients and always read the labels for any special precautions when using cleaning products
  • If you have sensitive skin, always wear gloves to protect your hands
  • If you are using products which contain bleach or which have a strong smell, ventilate your space thoroughly.
